The Big Picture

Our aim is to host good races, and we strive to be better each event. Part of our motivation  is the opportunity to help grow CX in Australia.

Sunbury CC is a small club, with an even smaller CX crew. Our theory is that if you do things with enough heart, that people with a shared passion will join you on your journey and together you can achieve big things - things that you couldn't possibly achieve alone. Our experience to date is testimony to this, and we send the deepest thanks to the legions of people who have helped us in so many different ways throughout our journey.

We started CX racing at Essendon Fields in 2014 with humble ambitions, and since that time the growth trajectory of the sport domestically has been phenomenal. Whilst we don't claim to responsible for that, we do hope that we have contributed -  along with other CX race hosting clubs across Australia - and that together the sport continues to develop & improve. Clubs are the lifeblood of our sport. We encourage everyone to consider lending a hand and getting active at a local club level. Quality events take a lot of work, and many hands truly do make light work.

Our ultimate dream is that Australia becomes a player in the globalisation of CX, becoming part of a pre-European circuit allowing riders to accumulating points ahead of the big races in Europe  (Australia, China, Japan and the USA) - & that one day Melbourne becomes a permanent World Cup host. In all likelihood, this is beyond our capabilities and ambitions, but we do hope to be part of the catalyst for that happening in the future.

It is no secret that a large part of the beauty of cyclocross is the community that surrounds it, and the welcoming and inclusive nature of the racing. This is what makes CX unique and so attractive, and it is our belief that this is what will continue to power CX into the future.

ABOUT CYCLOCROSS
Originating in Europe over 100 years ago, Cyclocross is traditionally a winter sport, raced on a short, off-road course, with various natural and man-made obstacles to test rider’s technical abilities. Cyclocross is famous for being a spectator-friendly, fun and inclusive racing format, attracting riders of all abilities and ages (3 to 70+), and is widely cited as the fastest growing market segment within cycling. Because Cyclocross is raced in a safe off-road environment, it is particularly suited to kids and novice racers, adding considerably to its community atmosphere
